Pidgin Setup
Pidgin is a free software instant messaging client for GNU/Linux and Windows (and others) that supports over a dozen protocols including XMPP (Jabber) and is very easy to use.
Creating the account
Add a new Jabber account by going to Accounts -> Add/Edit in the Pidgin menu.
Managing accounts
Click Add and select XMPP from the protocol list. Enter your desired username and our server name (programmer-art.org), then your desired password and check Create this new account on the server. Click Okay and the account is setup.
Registering a new account on the server
From now on Pidgin should automatically keep you logged into your new XMPP (Jabber) account.
